We know that many in our community are asking questions about the Liberal International congress in Sofia because of the understandable concerns about coronavirus – COVID-19. We take those concerns very seriously.
LI accords top priority to the health and well-being of the representatives of our member parties. For this reason, the LI bureau and our partners will take a final decision on the status of the congress by mid-April following the advice at that time of the WHO and other international health bodies. Therefore, please continue to submit your bureau nominations and other political documents in accordance with the first statutory deadline of 16 April 2020.
Our primary concern is for your safety and the safety of our staff. In that regard, we are regularly reviewing how the virus might impact our activities, including the Liberal International congress itself.
LI and MRF are working hard to make the Congress the great success you expect monitoring the situation day-by-day.
In support of our monitoring efforts I am asking all member parties, where possible, to share with the LI Secretariat their own preparatory experiences or considerations around their participation in other international events and specifically their planning regarding participation in the 63 LI Congress in June.
To emphasise how seriously we are taking this unfolding situation you will find outlined below the steps we will be taking this month:
If you have any considerations or concerns about our efforts listed above and how this may impact your congress participation, please get in touch with us over email at Office@liberal-international.org
