Europe has more Liberal International member parties than any other region of the world. We have a close relationship with our partners, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), to expand the appeal of Liberalism across the continent.
The party was established in 2002 from the alliance of four parties Liberal Reformist Party (PRL), the Francophone Democratic Federalists (FDF), the Citizens' Movement for Change (MCC) and the Party for Freedom and Progress. Because of his long past MR is a founding member of LI.
The party was founded in 1994 by then-President of the Bank of Estonia Siim Kallas as a split from National Coalition Party Pro Patria, the Reform Party joined Liberal International in 1990 as the Estonian Liberal Democratic Party at the Espoo Congress.
The ALDE Party consists of 60 member parties and thousands of individual members from countries across Europe. Formerly the European Liberal Democrat and Reform (ELDR) party, in 2012, European Liberal Democrat delegates voted to change the name of the party to Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE) Party to strengthen links with the European Parliamentary group.
The Republican Party of Georgia was founded in 1978 in then-Soviet Georgia, and campaigned for an independent Georgia, human rights and free market economy. RPG joined Liberal International in 2006 at the Marrakesh Congress.
DiL is an electoral alliance in Catalonia supported by Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC), Democrats of Catalonia (DC) and Reagrupament, the former joined Liberal International in 1975 at the Edinburgh Congress.
The party's roots trace back to the 19th century and the Liberals were a founder-member of LI but the Liberal Democrats formed in 1988 out of a merger between the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party. The LibDems joined LI in 1989 at the Paris Congress.
