Introduction
This Human Rights Toolkit helps users systematically create, organise, and track human rights–related events, issues, and alerts. Developed for Liberal International – the world federation of liberal and progressive democratic political parties – it supports the organisation in gathering timely information from members worldwide.
By structuring and analysing reports on human rights events and alerts, the Liberal International Human Rights Committee can align its strategic priorities, coordinate collective responses, and inform allies about key developments. The overall aim is to enable more coordinated and effective action in the promotion and protection of human rights. This tool supports the mission of the Liberal International Human Rights Committee to serve as a framework for exchanging information, experience and good practices in advocacy and lobbying in the defence and promotion of human rights, particularly civil liberties, among liberals from across the world.
Definitions
In this toolkit, Human Rights Events refer to planned gatherings such as conferences, UN Human Rights Council sessions, trainings, or networking meetings, which are recorded to track opportunities for advocacy, visibility, and cooperation.
Human Rights Alerts, on the other hand, cover urgent or significant developments affecting human rights, including protests, demonstrations, legal and policy changes, as well as imminent or ongoing violations like threats, arbitrary arrests, or violent crackdowns.
While events highlight opportunities to engage and build networks, alerts signal developments that require close monitoring and, where necessary, swift and coordinated responses.
