Liberal International Isaiah Berlin Lecture 2017 – Guy Verhofstadt

At a time when European Union member states face electoral challenges from right-wing, Eurosceptic, populist movements, the UK government is poised to trigger the formal process of withdrawing the country from the European Union.

Against this backdrop of unprecedented threats to the stability of the EU, Guy Verhofstadt – the European Parliament’s chief negotiator for Brexit and former prime minister of Belgium – sets out his vision for the future of the political order in Europe.

The lecture took place at Chatham House, London, on Monday 30 January 2017

Participants:

Opening remarks – Dr. Juli Minoves, 13th President of Liberal International

Keynote speaker – Guy Verhofstadt, Leader, Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, European Parliament; Prime Minister of Belgium (1999-2008)

Chair – Dr Robin Niblett CMG, Director of Chatham House
