The LI Human Rights Committee has released its annual report highlighting some of its key achievements and major events for calendar year 2015.

Introducing the report, LI HRC Chair and LI VP on the Bureau Markus Löning, had commended the Committee for building a global coalition for freedom emphasising the potential which lies ahead. “The LI Human Rights Committee has a bright future and twinned with this, liberals around the world can be proud and assured that, as the Committee prepares to begin a second mandate, authoritarians,despots, and oppressors of people cannot rest easy; liberals around the world, united by a fundamental belief in freedom, will not rest” he said.

Among its numerous and varied activities in 2015, the LI HRC marked a number of successes within and beyond the field of international politics. From the quarterly LI Human Rights Bulletin to hosting the first liberal debate on the future of the Responsibility to Protect principle following its inception 10 years ago, the LI HRC positioned itself as an important international human rights player able to better promote universal human rights.

LI had also championed a number of global human rights issues by strengthening strategic partnerships with the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva and the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York, while working extensively with its Working Groups on LGBTI Rights and Women’s Rights, led by Frank Van Dalen and Dr. Ketty Chen (DPP – LI full member) respectively,and long-established partners such as UN Watch.
