The Liberal International Asian Conference and the 172nd Executive Committee meeting will take place in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on 5-6 March 2004, hosted by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP – LI Full Member) and Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian.
The program focuses on Democratic Consolidation and the Role of Political Parties. A number of distinguished speakers will address the topic and, in addition, the Council of Asian Liberal Democrats (CALD – LI Cooperating Organisations) will host its Executive Committee at the same time, thus ensuring a high participation from Asia.
As the Taiwanese Presidential elections are only two weeks away from the date of the conference, the participants will experience the election fever first hand. This election will have a major bearing on the country’s democratic future: a large international presence will help the DPP consolidate the democratic path it has embarked upon.
