Senior Philippine Liberals shocked at dictator’s state honour

The rushed and controversial re-burial of former Philippines’ dictator, Ferdinand Marcos, at the Heroes Cemetery late last month, has prompted widespread shock and outrage among Filipinos with Vice President of the Philippines, Leni Robredo (Liberal Party of the Philippines (LP) – LI full member), describing the shady actions surrounding the burial as being ‘like a thief in the night’.

Marcos was a thief, a murderer and a dictator. He is no hero. If he were, obviously his family would not have to hide his burial like a shameful criminal deed.

This is how the Vice-President of the Philippines reacted to the shameful news the President Rodrigo Duterte had facilitated the burial of Ferdinand Marcos, who ruled the Philippines with an iron fist between 1972-1981. Duterte’s father was a governor who served in the Marcos cabinet in this period.

VP Robredo noted that the burial of Marcos was in defiance of the law because the ruling of the Supreme Court had not been made final. As scores of Filipinos took to social media to condemn the reburial, the Liberal Vice President hit out as the news slowly broke:

Like a thief in the night, the Marcos family deliberately hid the information of burying former President Marcos today from the Filipino people.
