LI bureau welcomes New York agreement on Greenland

The sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark is intact.

The bureau of Liberal International welcomes the agreement published in New York on Greenland today between the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenland and the US.

The new agreement is a modernation of the security agreement between Denmark and the US from 1951. The opening statement confirms the Sovereignty and integrity of The Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland.

This agreement concludes the process in which the US President Trump demanded an American take over of Greenland and threathened a militant annexation. The outcome is a victory for diplomatic solutions to serious international conflicts.

The agreement can help establish a stable security situation in the Arctic. The agreement is closely tied to the collective defense system organised through NATO.

The outcome is a most welcome outcome to liberals since it shows that aggressive behaviour of a large power can be countered by smaller independent nations. In this case through cooperation between the Kingdom of Denmark and the EU and numorous countries.
