The 62nd Congress of Liberal International took place in Dakar, Senegal from 28 to 30 November 2018. Hosted by the Alliance Pour la République (APR) and president Macky Sall, the congress ‘operationalised’ some of the theme set out in the Andorra Liberal Manifesto, with the launch of the Climate Justice Committee, a campaign to liberate wrongfully-imprisioned political leaders around the world, a theme text on ‘liberalism 4.0’ adopted, and much more besides.
With the participation of the presidents of Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, and Liberia among almost 200 liberals from around the world, a pledge to recommit to the values of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, marking it’s 70th anniversary in 2018, was signed.
With the support of LI member parties and partners, LI brought together prominent representatives of the global liberal family in the country described as the heart of west African democracy.
