Liberal International (LI) Vice President and RenewPAC Co-Chair Sidi Touré, together with LI Vice Presidents Henrik Bach Mortensen and Phil Bennion, joined liberal leaders from across Africa and Europe at the RenewPAC Summit 2026 in Rabat, Morocco, to advance a renewed vision for intercontinental cooperation.

Co-organised by Renew Europe and Parti Authenticité et Modernité (PAM), LI’s full member party in Morocco, the Summit provided a vital platform for dialogue, exchange, and partnership-building across the Africa–Europe liberal family.

Discussions highlighted both the opportunities and the challenges facing liberal forces across the two continents. In particularly powerful exchanges, Adalberto Costa Júnior, President of UNITA in Angola, and the President of NANMOLA in Mozambique shared first-hand insights with LI Vice Presidents on the realities of defending democracy under repressive political conditions.

On the sidelines of the Summit, LI leadership also engaged with the African Liberal Network to further strengthen partnerships and deepen liberal cooperation across Africa.

Held under the theme “Resilience and Renewal: Building Liberal Partnerships in a Multipolar World,” the Summit marked a significant step forward in reinforcing shared commitments to democratic resilience, stability, opportunity, and progress across continents.

During the RenewPAC press conference, Minister Sidi Touré underscored the importance of reframing Africa–Europe relations:

“Our relation (EU–Africa) must not be defined only by our past, but by the future we want to build together. This kind of summit helps build trust, mutual respect, and understanding. All too often, Africa is talked about through the prism of its challenges. We must talk about Africa in terms of opportunities.”
