LI VP Mortensen Visits Nuuk to Boost Liberal Ties

LI Vice President Henrik Bach Mortensen visited Nuuk, the Capital of Greenland last week to establish political ties to the Liberal Party of Greenland, Atassut. The party for decades has been a sister party of Venstre, the Danish Liberal Party.

VP Mortensen met with Minister Bentiaraq Ottosen and party staff of Atassut which is part of the coalition government.

The talks centrered on Arctic political issues, cooperation between Greenland and Denmark within the Danish Commonwealth and future relations between Atassut and LI.

VP Mortensen was later joined by ALDE VP Eva Kjer Hansen for a trip to the ice cap to study the effects of climate changes.

The NextGen Liberals Mentorship Programme concluded in Istanbul on 2–4 October 2026, bringing together 15 young liberal women leaders from Eastern Europe and Western Balkans for an intensive programme of workshops, mentoring and practical policy development. Organised by Liberal International in cooperation with D66 Internationaal, IFLRY and INLW, the programme combined interactive learning with personalised guidance, giving participants the opportunity to strengthen both their political skills and leadership.

Liberal International mourns the passing of Sidya Touré, former Prime Minister of Guinea and leader of the Union of Republican Forces (UFR), LI's member party. A distinguished statesman, accomplished technocrat and committed liberal, Sidya Touré dedicated his life to public service, democratic values and strengthening ties between Guinea, Africa and Europe. His political career spanned Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea, where he served in senior government positions, including as Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Alassane Ouattara under President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, before becoming Prime Minister of Guinea.
