Liberal International are excited to announce a new piece of work that will focus on finding the missing link between Human Rights and the Environment, initiated by LI’s President, Dr Hakima El Haité, and our Climate Justice Committee.
In cooperation with the ALDE grouping of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (ALDE-PACE), and supported by FNF Brussels, we are launching a study that will explore the feasibility of linking issues of the environment and climate change, with Human Rights. Last week was the first official meeting for the newly created working group that will explore and implement this project. Being guided by the current work done, especially in Europe, the working group will explore how to link these two concepts better in the rest of the world, shifting the intersection from a policy issue to a normative and value-based issue.
The working group will operate on a mandate until the end of the year, with the study being ready to be published by the upcoming LI Executive Committee Meeting in October, and further promoted afterwards. The members of the working group will met occasionally to feed input and give strategic direction to the study and its dissemination. Below is the final and complete list of members of the group:
