On the sidelines of the RenewPAC Summit 2026 in Rabat, Morocco, a landmark step for liberal cooperation across the continent was taken with the official founding of the African Liberal Parliamentary Alliance (ALPA).
Bringing together representatives of liberal and democratic parties from across Africa, the constitutive meeting marked the launch of a unified and structured platform for liberal parliamentarians – designed to amplify their collective voice and influence key political debates at both continental and global levels.
At the close of the founding session, members elected the Alliance’s first Steering Committee. In a significant and widely welcomed decision, LI VP Sidi Tiemoko Touré, Minister of Côte d’Ivoire and a leading figure of the RHDP, was elected as ALPA’s inaugural President.
His appointment reflects both his longstanding engagement within the international liberal movement and Côte d’Ivoire’s growing role in advancing democratic governance and liberal values across Africa. As President, Touré is expected to play a central role in shaping ALPA into a dynamic and influential force for cooperation, reform, and democratic resilience.

The creation of ALPA represents a major milestone for the liberal family in Africa. By fostering closer coordination among parliamentarians and strengthening cross-border collaboration, the Alliance aims to promote democratic values, good governance, and sustainable development across the continent.
