In September 2024, Liberal International and D66 International brought a delegation of experts to Rabat to develop recommendations improving climate justice in renewable energy transitions and build women’s leadership in the field.
Morocco is a leader in renewable electricity development, but with rapid transformational development, local communities can find their environments upended, new forms of dependency can emerge, and regulatory and oversight mechanisms can overlook these risks. This report presents analysis and recommendations that Morocco can use to strengthen its pathway toward a more just and inclusive energy transition, supporting its renewable energy targets ensuring its benefits are shared equitably and that trust, resilience, and long-term sustainability are locally distributed.
