Taiwan’s Application to the World Trade Organisation

The Liberal International Congress, meeting on 5th – 8th June in Noordwijk, The Netherlands:

• Understanding that Taiwan has applied for admission into the World Trade Organisation(WTO);
• aware that Taiwan is the 14th largest trading nation, the 20th largest economy and has the world’s second largest foreign exchange reserves;
• acknowledging that Taiwan has liberalised its economic and trading systems to levels equal to those of other WTO members;
• concerned that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is seeking to block Taiwan’s admission to the WTO;

Supports expediting Taiwan’s entry into the WTO.
