Noordwijk 1996
The Liberal International Congress, meeting on 5th – 8th June in Noordwijk, The Netherlands:
concerned about the political situation recently created by General Lino Oviedo’s attempted coup d’état in Paraguay;
condemns the General’s rebellion;
expresses relief that General Oviedo was finally not appointed Minister for Defence, and believes that the Paraguayan Justice administration must investigate his responsibilities and try him for the offences committed in violating the Paraguayan Constitution of 1992;
strongly supports the Partido Liberal Radical Auténtico and the Paraguayan democrats in their struggle to consolidate democracy and congratulates them on resisting the coup.
