In support of CDM efforts in agriculture to ensure a sustainable development (CDM-Clean Development Mechanism)
- Recognizing the need to ensure sustainable development as one of the key challenges facing developed and developing countries,
- Recognizing that implementing sustainable development of the agriculture for developing countries requires a balance between economic, social and environmental components,
- All the countries of the world has to take their responsibilities according to the Kyoto Agreement,
- Recognizing the need of a general agreement for free trade as a follow up to Doha and Accra
- Recognizing the fact that in many developing and other poorer countries many women are engaged in agricultural sector,
However noting that
- Agriculture is an important measure that should be highlighted in order to decrease the -greenhouse gases,
- Climate friendly agriculture may look very different in different regions and countries. The common aim is to be independent on fossil energy.
- Agricultural is the key element to fight hunger and poverty in many countries,
- Recognizing the challenge of food supply whereas the agricultural sector is the largest provider of food
- The property right of the farmer and mainly women involved in this sector in poorer countries is very limited,
- CDM is mainly a tool of practice in the developed countries to reduce the greenhouse gases,
Having in mind
- The responsibility in front of the Copenhagen Climate Conference,
The Congress calls
- therefore on all member parties and parliamentarians to commit promises into effective action, in order to assist the poorer countries fulfill their Copenhagen commitments,
- through providing sustainable means for a environmentally and climate friendly agriculture using CDM. Also highlighting that the most vulnerable groups involved are the women. This support to be institutionalized by the LI would undoubtedly lead toward a stronger position of the women in these countries.
