Resolution on Promoting Gender Equality By International Data

The Platform for Action (PfA) was adopted by the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing 1995. One of its strategic objectives is to generate and disseminate gender-disaggregated data and information for the planning and evaluation of gender-based policies.
The world-wide commitment to promote equal opportunities and the advancement of women has to be translated into concrete action, and that can’t be done without efficient instruments. Transnational comparisons are impossible without relevant and qualitative indicators that take into account the context of the data.
Data and statistical methods should, according to the PfA, be developed, analysed and disseminated relating to women in economic, social, cultural and political life. Areas of particular importance are the feminisation of poverty, the work and employment of women, all forms of violence against women, social policies and health services, all levels of decision-making in the private and public sectors and equal wages for equal labour, equal opportunities to upward mobility entrance into professions traditionally closed for women and human rights of women.
The Liberal International Congress therefore urges:
governments to promote regular collection, analysis and dissemination of gender disaggregated data in all fields of life, national, regional and international statistical services to develop qualitative and quantitative statistical indicators and methodologies to facilitate gender-based policies,
the United Nations to develop clear definitions of variables and concepts in order to provide valid indicators for comparison and consistent measurement of progress.
