The situation in Syria is hardly improving. Syrian forces have devastated Homs and humanitarian relief workers have had problems accessing those in need of food, water and medical help. Russia and China vetoed a Security Council resolution, and thus bear part of the responsibility for what is happening in Syria. Economic sanctions have been imposed, but will this be enough?
We are witnessing bloodshed in Syria, where innocent women and children are being killed, and I am afraid that we have not seen the end of it yet. When people are suffering as they are in Syria, and the Syrian regime is the driving force behind this, we cannot stay silent and wait for things to improve by themselves. It is important that the international community has a long-term roadmap for regime change. We must support the building of the state. Sustainability in handling the situation in Syria is important, as is the question of minority rights in Syria, created after the fall of the regime. Liberal International (LI) calls for the UN Security Council to refer the situation in Syria to the International Criminal Court and urges the Syrian regime to stop the mass murdering and human rights violations towards its own people. I will raise these issues at the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva this coming week

Liberal International will participate in the UN Human Rights Council General Debate Meeting in Geneva on 12 March. Liberal International’s delegation will also attend the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy on 13 March.
