- Salutes the stand taken by 90 US senators, led by the Republican John McCain, who insisted that all those acting for the US Government should respect the laws against the use of torture.
- Condemns the proposal, emanating from the White House, that CIA or other agents of the US Government should be allowed to use torture as long as it is inflicted as part of “counter terrorism operations, conducted abroad” on people who are not American citizens.
- Insists that this proposal violates US and international law.
- Demands that the US Government abandon this proposal and the practice of holding suspected terrorists in secret prisons outside the United States.
- Asks member parties of Liberal International to present this resolution to the US Embassy in their country or the diplomat charged with representing US interests.
