Liberal International welcomes the second round of presidential elections in Senegal and congratulates Mr Macky Sall, candidate for the Alliance for the Republic (APR) and former member of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) Executive Committee, on his victory.
Liberal International applauds the Senegalese people for having voted calmly. They have shown that Senegal is a mature democracy and Liberal International hopes for a similar environment for the legislative elections scheduled for 17 June 2012.
Liberal International also congratulates outgoing President, Abdoulaye Wade, for recognising the outcome of the elections and conceding defeat. Liberal International praises Maître Wade for his commitment to democratic and liberal values. He has strengthened Senegalese democracy, continuing the culture of democratic regime change which he led in 2000.
Liberal International believes that Maître Wade can end his term with his head held high; he leaves an impressive legacy. He is known across Africa as a defender of human rights, and as the founder of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NePAD). Domestically, Maître Wade has ensured the continued development of Senegal thanks to private sector investment. He ensured a higher level of growth than during the previous decade, and initiated public works which modernised the country.

L’Internationale Libérale félicite la tenue de la deuxième tour des élections présidentielles au Sénégal, et félicite de sa victoire M. Macky SALL, candidat de l’Alliance pour la République (APR) et ancien membre du Comité Directeur du Parti Démocratique Sénégalais (PDS).
L’Internationale Libérale applaudi le peuple sénégalais pour avoir voté dans le calme et la sérénité. Ils ont prouvé que la démocratie sénégalaise est majeure, et l’Internationale Libérale attend une ambiance égale pour les élections législatives prévu pour 17 juin 2012.
L’Internationale Libérale également félicite le Président sortant, Abdoulaye WADE, pour avoir reconnu le résultat des élections et concédé la défaite. L’Internationale Libérale rendre hommage à Maître WADE pour son dévouement à valeurs démocrates et libérales. Il a renforcé la démocratie sénégalaise, continuent la culture de l’alternance démocratique qu’il a mené en 2000.
L’Internationale Libérale croit que Maître WADE peut finir son mandat avec la tête haute ; il laisse un legs impressionnant. Il est connu autour de l’Afrique en tant que défenseur des droits des hommes, et l’initiateur du Nouveau partenariat pour le développement de l’Afrique (NePAD). À l’échelle nationale, Maître WADE a assuré le développement continu du pays grâce à l’investissement du secteur privé. Il a assuré un taux de croissance supérieur à celui de la décennie précédente, et il a lancé des grands travaux pour moderniser le pays.
