Marrakech, 11 November, 2006 – Liberal International, the world network of liberal and democratic parties, passed a resolution at their Congress, stating that it supports the efforts of the African Union forces should be supported by the international community. The resolution states that:
‘Liberal International calls on the European Union and NATO to provide logistical and financial support necessary to make the African Union forces in Darfur effective and sufficiently numerous.’
To protect civilians endangered by Sudanese forces the Janjaweed militias and rebel forces, Liberal International calls on the UN Security Council to strengthen the mandate of the African Union forces.
