The 55th Congress of Liberal International was hosted by the Alliance Party, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, from 15-17 May 2008.
Under the theme “Our Shared Future”, this Congress gathered hundreds of politicians from liberal parties, institutions, and think tanks from all over the world, and offered a unique opportunity for the discussion of this theme. The Congress Theme Report was written by the leader of the Democratic Alliance of South Africa and current Mayor of Cape Town, Mrs. Helen Zille, LI Bureau member and Bulgarian minister for the Environment Dr. Dzhevdet Chakarov, and Dr. Duncan Morrov, Chief Executive Officer of the Community Relations Council of Northern Ireland.
