Restoring Democracy in Cambodia ahead of the July 2018 Elections

Recalling the Resolution on Cambodia adopted at the 199th LI Executive Committee which did not prevent further oppression and deterioration of the situation in the country

Expressing deep concern over the conditions of the illegally imprisoned CNRP President Kem Sohka on trumped up political charges

Condemning the decision of the Cambodian Courts under direct political order of Hun Sen and his government to ban the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP)

Protesting the illegal revoking of the mandates of the democratically elected members of Parliament and representatives in the local authorities from CNRP

Deploring the continuous harassment and persecution of the CNRP leaders and the opposition representatives, some of who have been incarcerated and others had to exile from Cambodia

Rejecting the outcome of the February Senate elections without participation of the opposition

Acknowledging that the judiciary is acting as a political arm of the Hun Sen government

Mourning the victims of the brutal oppression and land-grabbing by the Hun Sen family and government

Voicing serious concern on the loss of freedoms and liberties, and the heavy use of armed police, military police and hired security guards to crack down on peaceful protests, confirmed by the UN

Welcoming the conclusions of the EU Council from the end of February 2018 and the Joint Statement of behalf of a group of 45 countries at the March UNHRC Session

Alerting that without participation of the opposition at the July elections Cambodia will slide into a one-party system and full dictatorship with serious constitutional and security consequences
