Liberal Party of the Philippines, Philippines 🇵🇭
Lorenzo Tañada started his political career by winning the seat of the fourth district of Quezon Province in the House of Representatives in 2004. He was the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Human Rights of the 14th Congress, and the Deputy Speaker of the 15th Congress. Human rights have been a lifelong advocacy of Atty. Tañada, having been inspired by his grandfather and father both prominent political leaders and human rights icons in the Philippines. For this reason, some of the laws he authored or co-authored as member of the Philippine Congress have a human rights dimension such as the Repeal of Death Penalty, Anti Torture Act, Defining and Penalizing Crimes under International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Victims Reparation and Recognition Act.
