Katie Beelaerts van Blokland has dedicated a large part of her professional life to the fight for Human Rights and equal opportunities, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague and the European Parliament in Brussels. She has also done so on a global scale as International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Coordination for the NATO Mission in Iraq. Katie is a strong believer in the power of Human Rights and is always committed to set this topic as priority on the agenda.

As Advisor to MEP Marietje Schaake, she contributed to EU external relations policies. This included arms embargoes, export control regulations, the mainstreaming of human rights, and the rule of law in EU policies. On a global level she has implemented International Humanitarian Lawand Human Rights advisory plans in Iraq. She has put existing NATO human security policies into action, including delivery of military medicine and the protection of civilians in the region. Katie Beelaerts van Blokland has both experience in the political arena as in the field.
