Joar is Member of the Swedish Parliament since 2018, and holds Liberalerna’s only seat on the Foreign Affairs Committee. A member of the national board and international committee of Liberalerna, he serves as the party’s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs.

Joar has a long-standing commitment to democracy and human rights. He is well-known not least thanks to his active stand on support for Ukraine. As the Swedish co-chair of IPAC, The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, Joar has pushed strongly for de-risking from China and supporting Taiwan.

Joar sits on the board of directors of Liberalerna’s development foundation, SILC, and has previously been on the board of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan. His commitment to strong humanitarian and pro-democracy development cooperation is well-known.

Joar is also a substitute member of the NATO and OSCE Parliamentary Assemblies. Between 2016 and 2019, he was president of the Liberal Youth of Sweden (LUF).
