Dr Imad Ahmed is an Energy and Climate Advisor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. He works with African governments to help them achieve their climate and energy goals. He is also a Research Fellow at UCL, from where he attained his PhD, which was on the climate resilience of hydropower in an African context, and which was recently published as a book by Springer Nature. He has negotiated both thermal and renewable energy projects for the Government of Rwanda, for whom he structured and executed $800M of infrastructure investment. He has been writing about the injustice around Africa’s energy development as imposed by donor nations, and is working to address the unfair levels of compensation to non-OECD custodian governments of significant carbon sinks. 

Dr Ahmed is on the Academic Board of The Paddy Ashdown Forum, and is an Executive Member of Liberal International British Group. He has been widely published, including by The New York Times, Financial Times, Internationale Politik and by various think tanks, including the European Liberal Forum, DIW Berlin and the International Growth Centre.
