Dr Dzevdet Chakarov is a Member of Parliament and former minister of the environment (2005-09) in Bulgaria, representing the Movement for Rights and Freedoms party (MRF). He was elected treasurer at LI’s 60th congress in Mexico City in 2015.

Dzevdet Chakarov studied medicine at the Medical University of Plovdiv and works as a surgeon. He is an associate professor in a Common Surgery at the Medical University of Plovdiv and has published several scientific research papers.

In 2001 Dr Chakarov was elected Member of the Bulgarian Parliament. His parliamentary activities include: Chairman of the Environment and Water Committee; member of Health Care Committee; as well as member of Delegation to the Assembly of the West-European Union and the US Congress

Before becoming an LI treasurer, Dr Chakarov was first elected vice-president on the LI Bureau at the 53rd Congress in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2005. He speaks Turkish, English and Russian.
