Christiaan is a policy advisor at the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights. He is the chair of the Economic, social and cultural rights working group of the European Network of National Human Rights, a collaborative platform for European National Human Rights Institutes. He is specialized in issues concerning digitalization and human rights. He authored several publications, including on the challenges and opportunities of using algorithms in recruitment (also available in English here and here). He also works on the protection of social rights, in particular in relation to the right to housing and the climate (just transition). Christiaan is trained in public international law and civil law. Before starting at the Institute, he worked on Business and Human Rights related issues for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. He is a member of the Dutch party D66.
