Art Eggleton is the President of the Canadian Group of Liberal International.  He has served on the Liberal International Bureau for the past two years as a co-opted member, being the only representative from North America. Mr Eggleton was elected as Vice President of Liberal International in 2022 at the 75th Anniversary Congress in Sofia, Bulgaria.    

He has served the people of Canada and the City of Toronto in public office for over 45 years. 

Starting with Toronto City Council where he was first elected in 1970.  Subsequently elected Mayor of Toronto in 1980, serving 11 years, the longest serving mayor in the City’s history.   

In 1993, Art Eggleton was elected as a Liberal to the Parliament of Canada and was appointed to the cabinet where he served in three different portfolios over 9 years. In 2005 he was appointed to the Senate of Canada and served until his retirement in 2018.
