LI’s Lord Alderdice named President of National Liberal Club

Liberal International is delighted to announce that its President of Honour, Lord John Alderdice, has been appointed as the new President of the National Liberal Club (NLC) in London.

Lord Alderdice’s distinguished career as a leader in the liberal movement and as a statesman committed to peace, democracy, and human rights makes this appointment a most fitting recognition. His longstanding contribution to Liberal International and to liberalism globally will now be complemented by his stewardship of one of the most historic and respected liberal institutions in the world.

Founded in 1882 by Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone, the National Liberal Club has for well over a century been a gathering place for liberals in Britain and internationally. It has played a central role in providing a home for liberal thought, debate, and fellowship, embodying the principles of openness and internationalism that remain at the heart of our movement today.

This appointment carries a special resonance for Liberal International, as the Secretariat of LI is proudly based at the National Liberal Club. We warmly congratulate Lord Alderdice on this achievement and look forward to the continued partnership between our global liberal family and the NLC under his leadership.
