Coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Liberal International has launched the inaugural edition of its Human Rights Bulletin. Addressing the theme of women’s rights, the bulletin features exclusive, expert opinions from liberals and commentary from the UN Women.
LI Vice President and Chair of the LI Human Rights Committee Markus Löning commented:
this Bulletin will serve as an important source of liberal opinions on contemporary human rights issues around the world while providing inspiration for further engagement in our work.
The first edition includes two experts in the political field, Iceland’s Foreign Minister Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson of LI full member Progressive Party and Phumzille van Damme MP of LI full member Democratic Alliance from South Africa, who provided in their articles a framework for politicians to tackle the gender inequality in politics and society in general.
Liberal International’s Human Rights Officer, Tamara Dancheva, has interviewed the Chief of the Civil Society Section of UN Women, Ms. Lopa Banerjee, exclusively for the first edition of the Human Rights Bulletin.
Ms. Banerjee offers liberal politicians around the world practical advice to combat discrimination and secure women’s rights in law.
The 193rd LI Executive Committee held in Hong Kong has renewed the mandate and priority areas of work of the LI Human Rights Committee for the next three year period (2015-2017). Find out more information about the new committee and its work on our website.
