This October, at Liberal International’s 199th Executive Committee meeting in Johannesburg, the LI executive committee elected 22 liberals from 17 countries to serve on the 2017-2019 Human Rights Committee.
The new Liberal International Human Rights Committee is made up of parliamentarians, human rights experts and activists from around the world, all committed to promoting fundamental freedoms and human rights.

“Radical Islamists are as Muslim as the KKK is Christian”, determined Hatim Beggar of LI’s Mouvement Populaire as two LI-D66 co-hosted events led by LI human rights committee member Boris Van der Ham on freedom of belief concluded in the Netherlands in April.
The event contributed to Liberal International’s work by building on the recently published LI Booklet on Freedom of Belief and the conclusions drawn from earlier debates held on the fringes of the Africa Liberal Network General Assembly in Accra, Ghana.
Gathering with freedom fighters from five continents in the capital of human rights, Liberal International’s president of honour, Hans van Baalen MEP, took the stage at the opening of the LI co-hosted 10th Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy in Geneva, Switzerland this February for one of the largest annual gatherings of human rights defenders from around the world.
Marking the two-year anniversary of the National Democratic Institute’s (NDI) #NottheCost campaign, Liberal International Human Rights Committee hosted a side-event on the fringes of the 62nd Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) drawing attention to what has now become the leading campaign on ending violence against women in politics. The LI delegation, led by LI president, Dr Juli Minoves, met with senior UN officials and CSW delegations from Europe, Africa, and Asia.
