LI president of honour Van Baalen will not seek third term in European Parliament

After almost 10 years of service, LI president of honour and ALDE Party president, Hans van Baalen MEP, has taken the decision not to seek a third term in the European Parliament.

Emphasising his continued commitment to European and international liberalism, Mr Van Baalen insisted that “it is time for a new generation”, adding that is it with “full energy [he will] continue as ALDE Party president and remains fully committee to Liberal International.”

Hans van Baalen led the world federation of liberal political parties between 2009-14 and, since 2015, has been the leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party.

On 14 July Mr Van Baalen was interviewed by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf on his decision not to seek a third mandate.
